Future (will)
Use it for: spontaneous decisions, promises, offers, and general predictions.
- Form: will + base verb (I will call you.)
- Negative: will not (won’t) + base verb
- Question: Will + subject + base verb? (Will you help?)
- Common phrases: I think…, probably…, maybe…
Going to
Use it for: plans/intentions and predictions with evidence.
- Form: am/is/are going to + base verb (She is going to travel.)
- Negative: am not / isn’t / aren’t going to + base verb
- Question: Am/Is/Are + subject + going to + base verb?
- Clue: evidence now → future result (Look at those clouds!)
Future Continuous
Use it for: an action that will be in progress at a specific time in the future.
- Form: will be + verb + -ing (This time tomorrow, I will be flying.)
- Often with: at 5 pm, this time tomorrow, next week
- Negative: won’t be + -ing
- Question: Will + subject + be + -ing?
Future Perfect
Use it for: something that will be finished before a future time.
- Form: will have + past participle (By Friday, I will have finished.)
- Often with: by, by the time, before
- Negative: won’t have + V3
- Question: Will + subject + have + V3?
